Short on time but interested in developing as a leader? Here is a good resource: The Leadership and Influence Summit. It’s a free on-line conference where all the presenters provide their information via video in relatively short sessions (10 – 15 minutes). The sponsors have increased the access time so that you can access these presentations until November 15. The format allows you to select what sounds interesting and “leave” by moving on to something else if the session isn’t what you thought it would be. You can also use the pause and rewind features of video to take great notes or interrupt the video to do something else for a minute. I recommend Jim Kouzes’ (Leading in Turbulent Times) and Barry Posner’s (Leadership Truths) sessions as good places to start.
Here is more information and registration. Again, it’s free.
I just watched Tim Elmore's presentation on this web site, and I think he was right on about Generation Y and what he calls, Generation iY (born after 1990). As a member of Generation Y, I would agree that we look at life as a cafeteria, believing we should be able to get only the things we want, rather than having to take anything we don't. It was also really interesting how he talked about how managers should start off by micromanaging this generation, which I also agree with. We need boundaries, and we like to know what is expected of us. Further, the conversation of Generation Y-ers wanting a mentor rather than a manager is one I also see in myself. Did anyone else view this particular video?
